Cast parts for retrofit
Modern casting methods for retrofit projects

Casting parts for retrofit often involves the production of one-offs or small series where flexibility in design is crucial. Typically, there's no existing permanent pattern for retrofit parts. At Römheld & Moelle, we specialize in precisely such cases.

Our casting processes without permanent patterns are perfectly tailored to retrofit projects, providing cast retrofit parts with minimal lead times and maximum flexibility. Our ClearCast and Printed Casting (3D sand printing) processes are particularly suited to manufacturing cast retrofit parts.

Both processes deliver retrofit components with exceptional quality and design freedom. They allow for design modifications after every casting. 3D sand printing even enables multiple variations of the same part to be cast simultaneously – something that would be unthinkable with traditional permanent patterns.

Printed Casting

Printed Casting – our 3D sand printing process – is a hybrid process where our molds for are created in 3D sand printers and then poured as usual.

The print file for the sand mold is generated from a 3D CAD drawing of the part. Whether the cast retrofit part is designed based on an original part drawing, constructed from 3D scanning data, or already available as a 3D CAD model, the 3D sand printing process always results in a virtual model. This model can then be modified, varied, or rerun any time.

3D sand printing accommodates the entire range of R&M materials. For example, a cast retrofit part could be manufactured in a more wear-resistant material. If non-ferrous materials are required, our 3D sand printing facility can produce molds to be cast in another foundries that offers the material.

ClearCast:
economical retrofit,
without compromise

ClearCast is a casting process available exclusively at the Römheld & Moelle and developed in-house. It combines the advantages of full mold casting (cost-effective, fast, and straightforward) with the precision and surface quality of the conventional process with permanent pattern. This makes it possible to produce cast parts for retrofit casting parts with high-quality surfaces and machinability on all sides – quickly and affordably.

Cast retrofit parts made using ClearCast have no inferior sides. This method is particularly suited to demanding retrofit parts with individual weights of up to 20 tons.
